All quoted Canadian travel insurance policies are available for purchase, with the following exceptions: 

  • RSA — No sales at this time for out-of-Canada travel.
  • Travel Guard (AIG Canada) — No sales at this time for out-of-Canada travel.

The following policies are offering medical insurance coverage for COVID-19 for travel outside of Canada.

Policies not listed here have not announced any plans for coronavirus coverage. Most policies continue to cover COVID-19 for travel within Canada.

  • Industrial Alliance — Hospital Medical Care — Standard coverage is $1M (note that a coverage amount of $2M is also available for a higher premium). COVID-19 coverage rider is available as an add-on for a 10% surcharge.
  • AwayCare — Both the no-questionnaire policy (younger travellers and short trips for older travellers) and the questionnaire policy for snowbirds now offer the option of adding a $2M COVID-19 rider. Call for details.
  • Allianz — Stand-alone policy offering $1M in coverage for COVID-19 related expenses only. May also be purchased as an add-on to emergency medical policies.
  • TuGo — Includes COVID-19 coverage up to $10M if fully or partially vaccinated (or unvaccinated due to age). Unvaccinated travellers may purchase complementary COVID-19 Unvaccinated Plan covering $1M. 
  • Manulife — Offers a pandemic plan covering $5M both emergency medical and COVID-19 related medical expenses if you are fully vaccinated ($1M COVID-19 coverage otherwise).
  • Destination — Offers a rider of $5M for COVID-19 related emergency medical expenses where travellers are fully vaccinated ($1M COVID-19 coverage otherwise).
  • MSH Canuck Voyage — Full coverage of $7M, including COVID-19 related expenses at no additional premium with restrictions (age 66-80 must be stable 365 days, with no COPD/emphysema).
  • Travelance — Offers a rider of $500,000 for COVID-19 related expenses on trips of 21 days or less.
  • GMS— Provides up to $500,000 of the overall $5M for COVID-19 related medical expenses.
