Allianz Global Assistance (AGA) is a member of Allianz Group, one of the world’s leading insurers operating in almost 70 countries. Allianz has been operating since 1890, with a long history of helping people find travel insurance.
AGA is one of Canada’s primary travel insurance providers, with policies underwritten by CUMIS General Insurance Company. Cumis is the primary insurance company for credit unions in Canada and is a member of the Co-operators Group of Companies. AGA had a recent product overhaul in 2023, with new high-quality insurance policies introduced to the Canadian market.

Allianz Advantages & Disadvantages

- They are one of the few policies available for purchase by Canadian travellers who are already overseas;
- Prices are location-based, so may work out cheaper than other providers, depending on where you travel to;
- Premiums are lower forsenior travellers with only one major medical condition than most other travel medical policies available in Canada;
- Stability periods range from 90 to 150 days, depending on age and medical conditions;
- Deductibles are in CAD, while most other insurance companies quote deductibles in USD;
- Allianz’s newest policies include a simplified medical questionnaire with only three main medical questions.
Disadvantages
- There are only two deductible options - $0 and $500, which is a limited amount compared to other Canadian traveller plans;
- There were complaints about the claims experience in the past, though this appears to have been resolved following the 2023 product relaunch;
- Allianz policies are more expensive than some other policy options, especially with no pre-existing conditions。
